La Mancellière is on the borders of three beautiful regions: Normandy, Brittany and the Loire giving you and your children the perfect opportunity to discover the very best of northern France.
Our large secure gardens are set well back from the road on a private 2-acre estate with plenty of room for kids to let off steam with footballs, slides, bats and balls, frisbees and boules. We also have four friendly sheep in a fenced off paddock: Milly, Fanny, Blanche and Hyacinth. At night, kids will love barbecues in the gardens and if they’re lucky they may even spot a bat or two.
In the immediate local area and less than 15 minutes from the house, there are free tennis courts, a large swimming complex, an open-air summer lido and a large private lake area where kids can play safely on the adventure playground and the man-made beach.
The Manche area of Normandy is jam-packed with activities for children and families. There is a water slide park at Ange Michel, an enchanted village theme park at Bellefontaine, the impressive zoo at Champrepus, Alligator Bay near to Mont Saint Michel and tons of museums and working farms to keep little ones occupied. If you prefer something more energetic, there is a system of old railway lines that have been converted into safe cycle and walking tracks and these make great places for family walks or a day out cycling. Bike hire is around 15 Euros per day and child seats are usually free. You can also enjoy a day’s horse-riding, fishing, surfing and kayaking at many locations throughout the local countryside and along the coast. We can provide details on all of these activities when you get here.
Normandy is an excellent place for curious minds. Mont Saint Michel will wow them, the D-day landing beaches are an excellent history lesson and a good excuse for a splash in the sea and there is always the chance for kids to practise their French on real live natives. Take them to the market and see what they can buy, just don’t let them near the tractor sellers or you may come home with more than you bargained for!
Finally, when all is quiet and the kids are tucked up in bed, you can sit back with your feet up in front of the fire or lie on the loungers under the stars with a glass of wine and listen to the crickets.
